INSEL 8.3 uses a different longitude/timezone convention than INSEL 8.2.

Longitude is now east-positive, and timezone is UTC.

As an example, Stuttgart (48.77°N, 9.18°E, UTC+1) was described in INSEL 8.2 as:

Latitude : 48.77

Longitude : -9.18

Timezone : 23

In INSEL 8.3, it is described as:

Latitude : 48.77

Longitude : 9.18

Timezone : 1

Which is the convention used by many other pieces of software.

New blocks

A new block has been defined for each block which expects coordinates (e.g. MTMLALO -> MTMLALO2, GENGT -> GENGT2, GH2GT -> GH2GT2, ...).

In INSEL GUI, only the new blocks will be available, and old blocks will be automatically converted.

The old blocks will still be available to INSEL core, e.g. for simulation and templates.

What to do?

Please backup old 8.2 models.

Open them : they should be automatically converted (e.g. MTMLALO -> MTMLALO2, -9.18 -> 9.18).

Manually redefine longitude if it was defined as a constant.

Check that the convention is now east-positive and UTC.

Check if there's any warning during the simulation.

Check if the results are plausible.
